Endocrinologist reveals what you need to know before using experimental weight loss drugs
Recently, social media has been actively discussing the latest weight loss drugs that have not yet been approved, but are already showing impressive results in studies. One such drug is retatrutide, an experimental molecule that, according to preliminary data, provides record weight loss. In some patients, the reduction reached more than 24–30% in 11 months of treatment.
That is why more and more people are trying to find ways to get the drug even before its official approval and appearance in pharmacies. But is it really possible to do it legally? And most importantly, is it safe?
Is it possible to get retatrutide before registration?
Yes, in some countries there is a mechanism for early access to innovative drugs through the compassionate use program — that is, “humanitarian use” for those who do not have alternative treatment methods.
Endocrinologist and nutritionist Olena Davydenko explains:
“Patients can apply for participation in the compassionate use program to receive the original drug from Eli Lilly before it is approved. But this opportunity is available only in certain countries.”
How to find out if the program is available in your country?
There are several proven ways:
• The myTomorrows platform is an official partner of many pharmaceutical companies. Enter the name of the drug and your country to check availability.
• Expanded access programs sites.
• Intermediary platforms, such as Inceptua.com or Clinigen.com.
Unfortunately, Ukraine is not currently included in the list of countries participating in the early access program for retatrutide.
Olena Davydenko warns:
“Often what is currently offered on the Internet under the guise of “retatrutide” is either untested mixtures from China or peptides without certification. They can pose a health risk because they have not undergone clinical trials and do not have proper quality control.”
Retatrutide does show high results in clinical trials, but it is not yet approved for general use. Its long-term safety, effects on the nervous system and risks are still being studied.
The doctor advises not to rush to independently search for drugs from dubious sources, but to wait for the official release. Or - to contact a doctor if you want to find out about participating in research or humanitarian programs.
