Treatment of overeating: when it is a disease and how to treat it - an endocrinologist

Endocrinologist, nutritionist with many years of experience Olena Davydenko talked about the treatment of overeating and how to determine that such a condition has turned into a disease:
"Overeating is a pathological condition that is often not considered by doctors as a separate diagnosis. Usually, its consequences are treated - obesity, excess weight, impaired glucose levels, prescribing weight loss drugs or hypoglycemic agents. However, overeating itself remains out of attention, although in many cases it requires separate treatment," - Olena Davydenko points out.
When is overeating a disease?
If you notice that frequent episodes of uncontrolled consumption of large amounts of food occur in you more than 2 times a week and last for more than half a year - this is a serious pathological condition that requires treatment. This is not a matter of “weak willpower” or lack of a conscious approach to nutrition – it is a real medical problem.
Of course, there are cases when overeating is caused by emotional stress, psychological trauma or environmental influences. In such situations, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or consultation with an experienced nutritionist can help. However, if these methods do not work, a different approach is needed.
How is overeating treated?
In such cases, drug therapy is used, but only as directed and under the supervision of a doctor. Self-medication is unacceptable, since treatment should be selected individually, taking into account the state of health, concomitant diseases and metabolic characteristics.
An endocrinologist talks about detailed methods of treating overeating in his video on the YouTube channel “Effective weight loss and a healthy lifestyle”.
