Как пояснил глава команды исследователей Джозеф Пеннингер, кровеносная система связана с каждым органом в человеческом организме. Поэтому возможность создания сосудов может способствовать лечению многих сердечно-сосудистых заболеваний.
После того, как ученые вырастили сосуды в чашке Петри, они пересадили их живым мышам. Вскоре клетки превратились в действующие кровеносные сосуды. Это означает, что их можно будет выращивать в других видах.
Исследователи также поместили сосуды в среду, имитирующую диабет. Они начали вести себя так же, как и у людей с диабетом.
Обычно сосуды у диабетиков со временем забиваются и препятствуют эффективной доставке кислорода и других питательных веществ к органам. В конце концов это может привести к серьезным проблемам, включая почечную недостаточность, инсульт и сердечные приступы. Теперь ученые собираются испытать выращенные сосуды на человеческих тканях.
