The enemy aims to occupy Pokrovsk and Kupyansk by the end of the year – Rezazade
Russia has set itself ambitious deadlines: to take control of Pokrovsk by December 15 and to completely seize Kupyansk by the end of the year. In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy holds the south and southwestern quarters; the center around the railway is in a gray zone, the north is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Near Kupyansk, the enemy is pressing from the north and west, trying to reach the P07 road (Kupyansk–Chuguyev) and secure a bridgehead for further operations.
According to international expert Ali Reza Rezazade, these terms have more political than operational meaning: the Kremlin seeks to show the “result” by the festive deadlines, justify the losses and mobilization efforts of its own audience. “Such calendar goals are a propaganda tool. They push the military command to risky offensives that cost a lot,” Rezazadeh notes.
The expert emphasizes that the strategic value of Kupyansk is great: control over it increases the logistical pressure on the northern approaches to the Kharkiv region. At the same time, systematic attempts to break through with the current human and material exhaustion of Russian forces risk turning into local disasters for the aggressor. “Ukrainian defense has strengthened — any attempt at a quick breakthrough can result in heavy losses for the enemy,” Rezazade emphasizes.
At the political level, the expert warns the West against hasty compromises: “If international partners agree to legitimize the “front line” as the border of peace, this will become a reward for aggression. Ukraine needs solid support — military, financial, and political — to break the Kremlin’s desire for temporary “victories” at any cost.”
Rezazade urges not to underestimate the symbolic role of these operations: "For Putin, the very fact of declaring 'success' is important. We must respond not only with weapons, but also with a clear strategy that will not allow the enemy to turn tactical assaults into strategic victories."
