Russia may be preparing a large-scale provocation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, using the theme of a “real nuclear threat” as a cover for finally connecting the Zaporizhzhia NPP to its energy system. This was stated by an international expert, the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade.
According to him, Moscow is trying to create an information background to present Ukraine as the culprit of a possible “nuclear accident”. Through controlled resources, reports are being spread about alleged “strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the reserve generators of the Zaporizhzhia NPP”, although the IAEA does not confirm a single such incident. On the contrary, observers are recording shelling from the occupied territories near the station.
“This is a classic tactic of Russian special services: to create a crisis, and then use it as an argument to justify their own actions. A provocation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP will allow the Kremlin to declare that Ukraine is allegedly unable to guarantee the safety of the facility, and therefore the plant should be “under Russian control,” explains Ali Reza Rezazade.
The expert emphasizes that the latest technical manipulations, in particular, mass power outages in the occupied territories under the pretext of “repair work,” indicate an active phase of reconnecting the Zaporizhzhia NPP to the Russian energy system.
“We are observing the final stage of the plan that Moscow has been implementing since 2022. They need an informational pretext — a “real threat” or an “accident” — to present this as a forced step for security purposes. In fact, this is about seizing a strategic facility,” notes Rezazade.
He emphasizes that Russia’s final control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP will become a precedent for nuclear terror, which carries a risk for the entire planet.
“If the world allows the Kremlin to do this, tomorrow the same model can be applied in other conflicts. This is a red line that cannot be crossed. Ukraine and its partners must seek immediate international control over the ZNPP,” Ali Reza Rezazade summarizes.
