Trump changes tone on Putin: support for Ukraine is growing – Rezazade
US President Donald Trump is demonstrating a change of course in his foreign policy regarding the war in Ukraine: the White House has approved new arms supplies to Kyiv, and Congress is preparing legislative initiatives for new sanctions against Russia.
According to international analyst Ali Reza Rezazade, this transformation in Washington indicates a strategic reassessment of the risks and the role of the US in the Eurasian conflict.
“After a long period of caution regarding Ukraine and attempts to maintain channels with Putin, Trump is showing disappointment and changing his rhetoric to a tougher one. This is a reflection of the fact that the previous approach did not bring the desired effect,” Rezazade notes.
Against this background, the US Congress is preparing to adopt a package of sanctions aimed at buyers of Russian energy resources. The idea is to give Trump legislative leverage to put pressure on the Kremlin’s international partners. This could become a powerful economic tool in the arsenal of the new geopolitical balance of the United States.
“These are not only tough words addressed to Putin, but also concrete steps on the part of the Trump administration and leading Republicans. Phrases about “lies” and “empty politeness” are a signal not only to Moscow, but also to European partners: the United States will not wait any longer,” the expert emphasizes.
Trump’s meeting with Zelensky in The Hague, where a list of necessary weapons was handed over, became a turning point. Some of Kyiv’s requests have already been approved — although the exact nomenclature is not disclosed, sources in the White House hint at air defense systems, in particular Patriot, which Ukraine considers critically important.
Against the background of these decisions — and record-breaking attacks by Russia, including more than 700 drones per day — strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities becomes even more urgent.
“This is the moment when the United States is not just returning to the game, but trying to seize the initiative. Successful assistance to Ukraine today is an argument in future negotiations when the time comes to seek an end to the war,” — Ali Reza Rezazade.
