US has gathered record forces in the Middle East: there may be a war with Iran – Rezazade
At the end of February 2026, the United States concentrated the largest number of military equipment and personnel in the Middle East in more than 20 years. Dozens of fighter jets, aircraft carriers and escort ships arrived in the region, which created an unprecedented grouping in the Persian Gulf.
This is happening against the backdrop of negotiations on Iran's nuclear program and after the brutal suppression of mass protests against the ayatollah's rule in the country. The administration of Donald Trump has repeatedly hinted at the possibility of large-scale strikes on the Iranian regime, which increases the risk of turning a local operation into a large-scale conflict.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that during the negotiations the White House demands not only restrictions on the nuclear program, but also control over ballistic missiles, an end to sponsorship of terrorist organizations in the region and changes in Iran's domestic policy towards the population.
International expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, notes that such a wide range of demands signals the US’s readiness to apply not only limited strikes, but also decisive actions against key strategic targets.
“We are observing a complex escalation: the US is demonstrating that diplomacy is combined with a readiness for forceful pressure. This is no longer a bluff – not only the nuclear program is at stake, but also Iran’s entire missile potential and regional influence,” Rezazade explains.
According to the expert, any attempt by the US to carry out a quick pinpoint attack could lead to an escalation, making a full-scale conflict almost inevitable.
“Iran is ready to respond. In response to strikes on strategic targets, the consequences may go beyond the local operation. Unlike 2025, the current situation is much more complicated due to the scale of the American group,” Rezazade notes.
The expert emphasizes that the current buildup of US forces signals a new phase of the US-Iranian confrontation, where diplomacy and a demonstration of military force go hand in hand.
“The key question is: will the US manage to preserve diplomatic chances or will it push the region into a conflict that could last for months,” concludes Ali Reza Rezazade.
