Witkoff said the US is ready to attack: a signal from Iran or a show of force – Rezazade 

US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said the US armed forces are at a high level of combat readiness amid the worsening relations between Washington and Tehran. He made the corresponding statement after a visit to the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which he reported on the social network X.

According to Witkoff, together with the commander of the US Navy Central Command Admiral Brad Cooper and Jared Kushner, he met with sailors and marines, and also observed flight operations on the aircraft carrier. The delegation also spoke with the pilot who had previously shot down an Iranian drone that had approached the ship without clearly defined intentions.

Witkoff stressed that he was proud of the level of training of the military personnel, who, according to him, not only protect US interests, but also play a key role in deterring potential adversaries. The statement came amid rising tensions between the US and Iran and is accompanied by increasingly harsh rhetoric from both sides.

International expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, believes that Witkoff's visit to the aircraft carrier is not so much a protocol, but a demonstrative one. "This is a classic signal of strength, addressed primarily to Tehran. The US is showing that it is not only negotiating, but also ready for a scenario of forceful pressure in the event of a failure of diplomacy," the expert notes.

According to Rezazade, the public emphasis on the incident with the Iranian drone deserves special attention. "In fact, this is a reminder to Iran that American forces have clear rules of response and will not hesitate to use weapons in the event of a threat. This is an element of psychological pressure, not a random detail," he explains.

Against the backdrop of these statements, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi previously warned that in the event of an attack by the United States, Tehran would strike American military bases in the Persian Gulf countries. Thus, the rhetoric of both sides is increasingly taking on the character of mutual military deterrence.

At the same time, the United States and Iran recently held indirect talks in Muscat, mediated by Oman. According to the Iranian side, they concerned exclusively the nuclear program. US President Donald Trump positively assessed these contacts, emphasizing that the key condition for any agreement remains Iran's complete rejection of nuclear weapons.

Rezazade believes that the current situation is typical of a new phase of the US-Iranian confrontation. "We are observing parallel processes: on the one hand, diplomatic channels, on the other, a demonstration of military readiness. This means that Washington is preparing for all scenarios, including forceful ones," the expert notes.

In his opinion, Witkoff's main message is not about internal support for the army, but about forming a clear position for external players. "The US is making it clear that it will not perceive Iranian threats as abstract. In the event of escalation, the response will be swift and technologically superior," Ali Reza Rezazade summarizes.
