Trump declared a "missile threat" from Iran: a possible force scenario – Rezazade

During his annual address to Congress, US President Donald Trump said that Iran is working on creating missiles that could soon reach the territory of the United States. At the same time, he emphasized that he prefers a diplomatic settlement, but does not rule out forceful steps if the threat persists.

In his speech, Trump described Iran as the "world's number one sponsor of terrorism" and said that Tehran has supported destabilization in the region for decades. According to him, Iran already possesses missiles capable of threatening Europe and American military bases abroad, and continues to develop intercontinental systems. The US president also expressed doubts about Tehran's readiness to finally give up nuclear weapons, despite the existing negotiations.

International expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, believes that Trump's rhetoric combines a diplomatic signal with a demonstration of readiness for escalation. According to him, this is a classic pressure strategy, when the negotiation process is accompanied by the public formation of a tough position.

Rezazade notes that the topic of Iran's missile program has long been a key one for US security policy. Even if the direct threat to the territory of the United States remains a subject of discussion among experts, the very possibility of developing intercontinental technologies changes the strategic balance and becomes an argument for strengthening sanctions and a military presence in the region.

According to the expert, the current diplomatic stage may be Tehran's last chance to avoid a large-scale confrontation. If Iran does not provide clear guarantees of renouncing nuclear and missile escalation, the White House may move to tougher steps, including limited strikes.

Rezazade also emphasizes that any force scenario will have consequences not only for Iran, but also for the entire Middle East. Regional destabilization, rising energy prices and the threat of direct confrontation between major powers may become a new reality.

According to him, the current situation is at a strategic choice point. Either Tehran will make a clear statement about the complete abandonment of nuclear weapons and restrictions on its missile program, or the conflict will gradually move from the diplomatic plane to the military-political one.
