China may transfer hypersonic missiles to Iran: this will be a new challenge for the US in the Middle East - Rezazade
Iran is close to concluding a deal with China to purchase CM-302 anti-ship supersonic missiles amid the deployment of US naval forces near the Iranian coast. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the deal is in the final stages, although the exact delivery dates have not yet been determined.
The CM-302 missiles, produced by the Chinese corporation China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), have a range of about 290 kilometers and are capable of reaching speeds four times the speed of sound. According to experts, their deployment will significantly strengthen Iran's capabilities in countering the US naval presence in the Persian Gulf region.
International expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, believes that the potential deal is of strategic importance not only for Tehran, but also for the global balance of power. “This is not just about selling missiles. This is a signal about the formation of an alternative system of military-technical cooperation outside the Western sphere of influence. China is demonstrating its readiness to strengthen the defense capabilities of its partners even in areas of direct confrontation with the United States,” he notes.
According to Rezazade, if the deal is implemented, Iran will be able to create a more complex environment for the actions of American aircraft carrier groups and warships. “Supersonic anti-ship missiles significantly complicate interception. This increases the risks for any naval operation near the Iranian coast,” the expert emphasizes.
At the same time, he emphasizes that such steps could cause a new round of tension. “Washington will probably view this as a change in the military balance in the region. In response, the US may increase sanctions pressure or increase its military presence,” Rezazade believes.
An official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the country has existing military and security agreements with its allies, and now is “not the time to violate them,” without actually denying the information about the negotiations.
According to Ali Reza Rezazade, the situation demonstrates a new phase of geopolitical confrontation. “The Middle East is increasingly becoming a platform for strategic competition between major powers. Each new weapons system here is not only a military factor, but also a political message,” the expert summarizes.
