US and Israel were ready to strike Iran: Diplomacy can only be a pause – Rezazadeh
The US and Israel planned to strike Iran on February 21, but the operation was postponed due to weather conditions, clarification of intelligence data and coordination reasons.
According to an Israeli official, the talks in Geneva could have served as a tool to gain time until the new date of the potential strike. The goal is to keep Tehran convinced that diplomacy remains a priority policy direction of the Donald Trump administration.
At the same time, American officials deny that the Geneva format was a tactical ploy. According to them, the US made Iran a final offer - a 10-year moratorium on uranium enrichment in exchange for the supply of civilian nuclear fuel from Washington. The Trump team also made it clear that if Tehran refuses this initiative, the use of force is possible.
Ali Reza Rezazade, an international expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, notes that the situation is approaching a critical point. “We see a classic model: first a diplomatic window of opportunity, then a tough warning. If Tehran does not agree to limit its nuclear program, the scenario of forceful pressure will become a reality,” he emphasizes.
According to Rezazade, a 10-year moratorium would mean a de facto freeze on the strategic component of Iran’s nuclear program. “For the current regime, this is not only a question of technology, but also of prestige and security doctrine. That is why a compromise seems unlikely without internal political changes,” the expert believes.
He also emphasizes that the coordination between the United States and Israel demonstrates an unprecedented level of military-political synchronization. “If a strike occurs, it will not be a spontaneous action, but part of a broader strategy to reformat the balance of power in the Middle East,” Rezazade notes.
In his opinion, the coming weeks will be decisive. "Tehran must make a choice between tough confrontation and controlled compromise. The time for diplomacy is limited, and this is a signal that is well understood in the region," the expert summarizes.
