Appeals court allows release of report on Trump’s attempts to overturn election results – Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, indicates that a US appeals court has ruled that allows the Department of Justice to release the report of special counsel Jack Smith on Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. However, the exact date of publication remains unknown.
The report consists of two parts: the first concerns the investigation into election interference, and the second - Trump’s alleged improper handling of classified documents. The last part will not be released yet due to ongoing legal proceedings.
Trump and his former co-defendants have tried to block the publication of the report, saying that it would hinder his preparations for assuming the presidency. They have not yet decided whether they will appeal the court’s decision.
Smith's report could shed new light on Trump and his allies' attempts to overturn the election results, providing a more detailed picture of the evidence gathered and the government's strategy they could use in the event of a trial.
