Musk-Trump Conflict Symbolizes Political Decline of US Elites – Rezazade

The public severance of relations between Donald Trump and Elon Musk is turning from a personal drama into a global signal of the degradation of political leadership in the US.

This opinion was expressed by the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international expert Ali Reza Rezazade, commenting on the escalation of the conflict between the two most influential figures in modern America.

“This is no longer just a clash of two egos. This is a war of two personifications of political inconsistency and business cynicism, which illustrates the loss of direction in US domestic politics,” the expert believes.

Amid Musk’s sharp criticism of Trump’s “ugly and irresponsible” tax and spending bill, the former alliance has turned into a toxic confrontation. In response, Trump openly declared his readiness to cancel government contracts and subsidies on which part of Musk’s business — Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink — depends.

Rezazade believes that the situation resembles the fall of an empire, where internal showdowns prevail over strategic statehood:
“Musk and Trump are two products of the same system that for years lived by the principle of “everything for show”. Today, this show is devouring America itself. And when the US president publicly accuses a billionaire of parasitism, and he in response hints at ties to Epstein, this is not the level of a state discussion, but of a public scandal in the tabloid style.”

According to Rezazadeh, the world cannot ignore the consequences of this struggle:
“The US is a nuclear power, an economic hegemon, a strategic partner for dozens of countries. But when its president and one of the richest people on the planet arrange a show conflict in the style of a political farce, this undermines trust in the very American model of democracy.”

Meanwhile, Musk has begun to openly support the idea of impeaching Trump, questioning the legitimacy of his policies and hinting that he himself may aspire to a political role. Rezazade reacts cautiously to this:

“When people who bear no political responsibility but possess unprecedented media resources and technological power begin to dictate the narrative, the world finds themselves facing the risk of technocratic tyranny. The United States must decide who leads the state — the elected authorities or an offended billionaire.”

According to the expert, the Musk-Trump conflict is also a signal to US allies: “Washington is no longer a source of stability. And as long as there is a show instead of a strategy, trust in American leadership will only fall.”
