Truce between Israel and Iran: a pause for regrouping, not the end of the conflict – Rezazade

After a week of large-scale escalation in the Middle East, Israel and Iran have announced a ceasefire. US President Donald Trump, in his typical style, confirmed the agreement: “The ceasefire regime has entered into force. Please do not violate it!” he said, hinting at achieving some control over the situation.
The Office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially announced that the military operation had achieved its goals: eliminating nuclear and missile threats from Iran. At the same time, they warned: if the terms of the ceasefire are violated, the response will be immediate.
The first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, notes: the news of the cessation of hostilities is positive, but by no means final.
“Now we are observing more of an operational regrouping of the parties than a real breakthrough towards peace. After the strikes on military airfields and the loss of part of its air fleet, Iran is most likely trying to rethink its further strategy. And Israel is trying to record its success,” the expert notes.
In his opinion, in such conditions, even a few days without hostilities are more of an exchange of signals than a political agreement.
At the same time, the situation remains explosive. A few hours before the announcement of the ceasefire, an Iranian ballistic missile fell in the city of Beersheba in southern Israel. Six civilians were injured, and among the victims were people with smoke inhalation and panic attacks.
“This shelling is evidence that the situation has not been resolved, but has only been postponed. The responsibility for maintaining peace now lies entirely with the political will of both sides,” Rezazade emphasizes.
Now the parties have announced the achievement of “operational goals,” but there is no talk of security guarantees or mechanisms for a long-term settlement.
"The world has not become safer. It's just that the louder part of the conflict has changed to the quieter part. And that's the biggest worry," summarizes Ali Reza Rezazade.
