Trump to announce first major trade deal with UK – Rezazade
On Thursday morning, US President Donald Trump plans to officially announce the achievement of a trade deal with the UK — the first of dozens that his administration expects to conclude in the near future with global partners.
This was reported by Ali Reza Rezazade, the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, citing sources in the White House administration.
According to Rezazade, the expected agreement will be “the symbolic beginning of a new wave of foreign economic agreements of the United States,” which should be concluded before the end of the 90-day moratorium on tariffs imposed by Trump in April. At that time, the White House temporarily suspended the effect of new tariffs on imports from more than 70 countries to give diplomacy a chance.
“This is not only an economic step, but also a signal to allies: the United States is ready for a new phase of partnership. It is possible that the agreement with the UK is a template for further negotiations,” Rezazade said.
The official details of the agreement have not yet been made public. However, it is known that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was preparing for this visit to the US back in February, having secured the personal support of King Charles III. Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, has relied on strategic cooperation with Trump to compensate for the losses from the UK’s exit from the EU.
In his post on the social network Truth Social, Trump announced the day before:
“A BIG PRESS CONFERENCE tomorrow at 10:00 am in the Oval Office. This is a MAJOR TRADE DEAL with representatives of a GREAT, RESPECTED COUNTRY. THE FIRST OF MANY!!!”
According to Ali Reza Rezazade, the current agreement could be a political victory not only for the US, but also for the British government:
“This is an important step for both sides — Washington shows initiative, and London gets a chance to restore economic dynamics after Brexit.”
Rezazade warns that experts are currently skeptical about the possibility of deep breakthroughs in the short term. However, he believes that this is just the beginning: “Trump’s strategy is to sign framework agreements that will eventually grow into full-fledged economic packages.”
