Trump Appoints Fox News Host Pirro as Acting U.S. Attorney in Washington – Rezazade
US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Fox News host and former judge Jeanine Pirro as acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
This was announced by Ali Reza Rezazade, the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, emphasizing that this appointment raises serious questions both in legal circles and among political analysts.
According to Rezazade, this is not just a personnel decision, but a symptom of the general course of the Trump administration: “Pirro is a voice that has been voicing the most emotional and sometimes disinformation messages in support of the president for years. Her appearance in such a key position is not accidental - it is a clear signal of the merging of media loyalty with state justice.”
Jeanine Pirro, who rose to fame for her appearances on Fox News, including her program “Justice with Judge Jeanine,” is already involved in two lawsuits over the spread of false claims about fraud in the 2020 election. Her statements were part of the evidence in the case against Fox, which ended with Dominion receiving $787.5 million in compensation. Pirro is also a defendant in the $2.7 billion Smartmatic case, which is still pending.
“Her journalistic background is not just a backdrop, it is a basis for future criticism if Trump decides to make her a permanent federal prosecutor. And therein lies the main problem: justice is becoming a field of media influence,” Rezazade noted.
The previous nominee, Ed Martin, spent only 15 weeks in office and was embroiled in a series of scandals that, according to experts, undermined confidence in his ability to lead the largest prosecutor's office in the United States. Now, Jeanine Pirro, according to Trump, must turn things around. In a post on Truth Social, the president described her as "extremely qualified."
Ali Reza Rezazade emphasizes: The Washington office of the U.S. attorney is strategically important - with more than 350 prosecutors, it is responsible for both local and federal cases, including national security, state corruption and political crimes.
"Such an appointment could have long-term consequences. If Pirro remains, even on a temporary basis, we will see a further blurring of the lines between the legal system and political-media loyalties," Rezazade concluded.
