Trump hands over security to Rubio: This is a signal of concentration of power – Rezazade

US President Donald Trump has made the biggest personnel reshuffle of his second term: he has removed National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and temporarily transferred his powers to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
At the same time, Waltz was nominated for the position of US Permanent Representative to the UN, which, although prestigious, has much less influence. This decision caused surprise even in the State Department and, according to experts, demonstrates a further collapse of the balance of power in the American political system.
As noted by international expert, First Vice President of the Iranian opposition in Washington Ali Reza Rezazade, the simultaneous appointment of one person to the positions of Secretary of State and National Security Advisor is a worrying precedent.
“This decision resembles a model of authoritarian rule. "The appointment of Marco Rubio as both diplomacy and national security secretary represents a dangerous concentration of influence that hasn't been seen since the days of Nixon and Henry Kissinger," Rezazade said.
Waltz was reportedly fired for accidentally including a journalist in a closed-door chat about the war in Yemen. The president also expressed dissatisfaction with what he saw as disloyal appointments.
But Waltz's formal appointment to the UN ambassador opens a new front in the political battle. His nomination will require Senate confirmation, which would allow Democrats to question him publicly under oath on a range of sensitive topics, from immigration to tariff policy to military operations.
"Trump seems to be deliberately exposing his former adviser, but it's also a way to tighten control over his inner circle. "Everything is going to the point where even the most influential positions in the US are becoming instruments of personal trust, not of state interest," Rezazade comments.
The announcement of the personnel change caught the State Department by surprise - the representative of the institution, Tammy Bruce, learned about Trump's decision during a briefing from a journalist. Her response was eloquent: "This is a miracle of modern technology and social networks."
According to Rezazade, the situation illustrates the chaotic decision-making process in the Trump administration and the gradual decline in the institutional role of state bodies.
"Blurring powers, the lack of clear deadlines, and overloading one person with several key functions is not efficiency. This is a symptom of the verticalization of power in a system that has been built on checks and balances for decades," the expert concluded.
Despite this, Rubio, according to his entourage, agreed to an additional role, considering himself capable of coping with the double burden. But for Democrats and US allies, the signal is clear: the Trump administration is increasingly guided by transparent mechanisms, resorting instead to personal loyalty and political concentration.
