Trump in Qatar: Military Base, Billion-Dollar Deals, and a New Geopolitical Order – Rezazade
During his visit to Qatar, US President Donald Trump visited Al-Udeid Air Base, a key outpost of the US military presence in the Middle East.
According to international security expert Ali Reza Rezazade, this move is not only a symbolic gesture of support for allies, but also part of a broader US strategy to rethink its role in the region.
“Trump’s visit to Al-Udeid demonstrates the US desire to strengthen military and economic ties with Qatar, which is an important partner in the region,” Rezazade notes.
A number of agreements were signed during the visit, including the supply of 210 Boeing aircraft worth $96 billion, which will be the largest order in the company’s history. Contracts for the purchase of drones and counter-drone systems totaling more than $3 billion were also signed.
However, the most controversial offer was Qatar’s offer to give Trump a luxury Boeing 747-8 aircraft worth $400 million for temporary use as Air Force One. The gesture raised concerns about a possible violation of the US Constitution, in particular the provision prohibiting the acceptance of gifts from foreign states without the consent of Congress.
“Accepting such a gift could set a precedent that would call into question the independence of US foreign policy and raise doubts about the president’s personal interests,” warns Rezazade.
In addition, Trump announced the lifting of sanctions on Syria and met with the new Syrian President, Ahmed al-Sharaa, urging him to normalize relations with Israel.
“This indicates a change in the US approach to resolving conflicts in the Middle East, focused on economic cooperation and stability,” Rezazade emphasizes.
Overall, Trump's visit to Qatar and other events of his Middle East tour indicate the US's desire to strengthen its position in the region through economic and military agreements, as well as rethink its role in resolving regional conflicts.
