US considering force scenarios against Iran amid international consultations – Rezazade
The administration of US President Donald Trump has asked allies to provide intelligence on potential targets in Iran. The move shows that Washington is seriously considering various scenarios of action against the backdrop of the Iranian regime’s harsh crackdown on protests and rising tensions in the region.
Despite the White House’s publicly tough rhetoric and statements of readiness for decisive action, there is no complete unity within the administration itself on the advisability of a new military intervention in the Middle East. Some of Trump’s inner circle, including Vice President J.D. Vance, are opposed to the US’s deep involvement in another conflict, fearing a repeat of protracted wars and a departure from the “America First” doctrine.
International expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, believes that the current consultations have a broader significance than direct military training. “Discussing possible goals and scenarios is not only a military-technical process. It is a political signal to Tehran that the Iranian issue is again in an active phase of strategic decision-making,” he notes.
According to Rezazade, internal doubts in the Trump administration are a key factor. “We see a president who publicly demonstrates toughness, but at the same time weighs the risks. Given the experience of previous operations and limited resources in the region, Iran is a difficult strategic dilemma for Washington, not an obvious choice,” the expert emphasizes.
Rezazade draws special attention to the tactics of the Iranian regime itself. “Tehran is trying to take advantage of these fluctuations, imitating a readiness for dialogue. This is a classic attempt to buy time, reduce international pressure and at the same time strengthen internal control of the security forces,” he notes.
According to the expert, Donald Trump’s final decision will depend on the balance between supporters of the force scenario, domestic political risks and the real military-strategic capabilities of the United States. “So far, it is more about forming options and a pressure tool, rather than a point of no return. However, the preparation itself significantly raises the stakes for the entire Middle East,” Ali Reza Rezazade summarizes.
