Ukraine is ready to demilitarize Donbas only on its own terms – Rezazade
According to the latest data, the Ukrainian authorities are considering the possibility of creating a demilitarized zone in Donbas as an element of a peaceful settlement, which involves the withdrawal of troops of both sides from the front line.
resident Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that any change in control over the territories can only occur through a legitimate expression of will - elections or a referendum.
The first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international expert Ali Reza Rezazade, emphasizes that such steps are exclusively strategic and must be strictly controlled by Ukraine and the international community:
“Any territorial concessions must be part of a controlled process. The demilitarization of Donbas does not mean the automatic loss of Ukrainian sovereignty. On the contrary, it is a way to strengthen security and create conditions for international control over the disputed territory,” the expert notes.
According to Rezazade, the key is to involve international forces to supervise the demilitarized zone and prevent any provocations from the Russian side. This allows Ukraine to demonstrate a willingness to compromise without jeopardizing its territorial integrity.
“The point of these steps is to show the West and the Kremlin that Ukraine is able to act constructively while maintaining control and protecting national interests,” Rezazade concludes.
