Afghanistan is counting on the support of the new US presidential candidate Harris – Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian Opposition in Washington (NIC) Ali Reza Rezazade indicates that the Afghans are counting on the support of Kamala Harris in the issue of the return of the United States troops to Afghanistan, because the Afghans are worried about the possible return of the influence of the Taliban.
As the Afghan official Nader Naderi notes, the Afghans want the Taliban to agree to a peace agreement. When Joe Biden's presidency began, Nader Naderi knew the new commander-in-chief was determined to get American troops out of his country, but he, like other Afghans who feared the return of the repressive Taliban regime that was ousted in 2001, hoped his ally Kamala Harris could convince Biden to keep some troops until the Taliban agrees to a peace deal.
While Harris supported Biden's pledge to end the bloody 20-year military operation, she was also outspoken about protecting women and children after the United States withdraws. "I want to make sure that the country is on a path to stability so that we protect the gains that have been made for Afghan women and others," Harris said in 2019.
The withdrawal of American troops turned chaotic and deadly in August 2021. "I was hoping that President Biden would have listened to Harris and other voices that spoke up for Afghan women, but that didn't happen," said Naderi, who was an adviser to then-Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
