Criminal case against Trump closed – Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian opposition in Washington (NIC) Ali Reza Rezazade reports that the US has closed the criminal case against President-elect Donald Trump related to interference in the 2020 election.
The reason was that the Constitution prohibits federal charges and criminal prosecution of the current president.
Judge Tanya Chutkan granted Special Counsel Jack Smith’s request to close the case on November 25. This decision also applies to charges that included attempts to overturn the election results in Trump’s favor and the events that led to the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The prosecutor noted that according to the policy of the Department of Justice, the prosecution of the current president is possible only after his term ends. Theoretically, charges could be filed in the future.
In addition, a request has been filed to dismiss the appeal in the classified documents case pending in Florida. The relevant court is expected to approve this decision in the near future.
