US resumes military aid, Ukraine remains in focus of American support – Rezazade

US President Donald Trump has declared his readiness to provide Ukraine with a new batch of weapons, emphasizing that Kyiv has the right to self-defense.
“We have to do it. They have to be able to defend themselves. They are being hit very hard right now,” he said in a conversation with journalists during a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This became an important signal after the news about the temporary suspension of some supplies from the Pentagon warehouses. Now the United States is officially returning to defense assistance to Ukraine — with a focus on supplies of a “predominantly defensive nature.”
Rezazadeh: “Ukraine maintains strategic support from the US”
International analyst and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, believes that this step demonstrates that Ukraine maintains an important place in US foreign policy — despite the adjustment of approaches.
“Trump is not refusing to support Ukraine. On the contrary, he is demonstrating that he is ready to help within the framework of a strategically verified approach. This is an encouraging signal for Kyiv, which proves that the Ukrainian issue is not lost in the priorities of the White House,” Rezazade notes.
In his opinion, Ukraine will benefit not only from the very fact of new supplies, but also from maintaining the position of a key partner in the security of Eastern Europe.
“Even after the review of the US internal reserves, Ukraine is the first to receive confirmation of new support. This speaks of the stability of relations, despite the change in rhetoric,” the expert adds.
The change in rhetoric regarding Putin is a chance for Kyiv
It is also significant that Trump expressed disappointment in Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he had a telephone conversation. “I am not at all satisfied with Putin,” Trump told reporters.
“This is a clear signal for both the Kremlin and the allies. Public distancing from Putin is an important diplomatic gesture. And for Ukraine, this creates an additional field of opportunities,” Rezazade believes.
He emphasizes: even under the conditions of pragmatic diplomacy, Trump does not abandon the course of strengthening the defense capabilities of partners.
“Ukraine remains in the focus of the policy of containment, which is formed by both Democrats and Republicans. And this gives Kyiv room for strategic maneuver — including in negotiations with allies,” Ali Reza Rezazade points out.
