India Strikes Pakistan After Kashmir Attack – Rezazade
On the night of May 7, 2025, India launched a major military operation dubbed “Operation Sindoor,” striking nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir.
The action was in response to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, mostly Indian tourists. India blamed the attack on The Resistance Front, a group affiliated with the Pakistani organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Pakistan strongly condemned the strikes, calling them an “act of war,” and said at least 26 civilians were killed and 46 injured. In response, the Pakistani military said it had shot down five Indian fighter jets, although India did not confirm these claims. Both sides have reported artillery shelling along the Line of Control, resulting in further civilian casualties.
International security expert Ali Reza Rezazade says the situation is extremely dangerous:
“This is not just another border incident. We are witnessing an escalation that could lead to a full-scale conflict between the two nuclear-armed states. It is important that the international community intervenes immediately to de-escalate the situation.”
Rezazade also stresses that the events in Kashmir have deep historical roots, and without addressing the root causes of the conflict, such incidents will be repeated.
The international community, including the UN, the US, the UK, China and France, have called on both sides to exercise restraint and immediately cease hostilities. However, Rezazade said that without active mediation and diplomatic efforts, the risk of further escalation remains high.
The situation continues to evolve, and the international community is closely monitoring events, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
