Trump wants to declare victory, but Iran retains leverage – Rezazade
After two weeks of fighting between the US, Israel and Iran, Washington claims significant military successes. US President Donald Trump emphasizes that the operation is progressing faster than planned, and the United States is “well ahead of schedule.”
Despite powerful strikes on military and nuclear facilities, the authorities in Tehran retain control over the country. In addition, Iran continues to influence the situation in the Persian Gulf, creating threats to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the key routes for global oil and gas supplies.
According to Western analysts, Iran also stores approximately 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium. Although part of the nuclear infrastructure was damaged during the strikes, these stocks remain an important factor in the confrontation with the West.
International expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, notes that military successes do not mean an automatic end to the conflict.
“The US and its allies have achieved significant results on the battlefield. But Iran still has leverage — primarily through the energy factor and the potential of the nuclear program,” Rezazade notes.
According to him, Tehran can use the threat to shipping in the Persian Gulf and the issue of the nuclear program as tools of political pressure.
“These are the factors that make it difficult to quickly end the conflict, even despite the US military superiority,” the expert emphasizes.
