Іран реагує на суперечливі сигнали з Вашингтону щодо ядерних переговорів – Резазаде
Tehran accused the Donald Trump administration of inconsistent positions on Iran’s nuclear program, calling such signals “unproductive” ahead of the second round of talks in Rome.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, a meeting between Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff is scheduled for Saturday. The first round took place last week in Oman and lasted more than two hours.
Ali Reza Rezazade, the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in the United States, who has long been monitoring Iran’s nuclear diplomacy, noted that the lack of a clear strategy from Washington could disrupt constructive dialogue.
“Today we are seeing a classic situation when public statements are at odds with backroom diplomacy. This creates a basis for distrust, especially in such a sensitive area as nuclear security,” Rezazadeh said in a commentary from Washington.
Araghchi said on Wednesday that Iran’s position remains unchanged: the country is ready to build trust, but uranium enrichment for peaceful energy will not be a bargaining chip. “We will participate in the negotiations calmly and with restraint, without the influence of any internal groups,” he added.
Rezazade draws attention to the political contradictions within the Trump administration. Despite the fact that the president himself speaks in favor of diplomacy and “does not want Iran to get a nuclear bomb,” national security adviser Michael Waltz has publicly stated that Iran must completely curtail its uranium enrichment program. And Witkoff, who initially announced an acceptable enrichment limit of 3.6%, “rolled back” his position on social media within a day, stating that complete dismantling is the real goal.
“Such disorganization in American signals only strengthens the position of hardliners in Tehran, who do not trust any dialogue. If the White House does not internally agree on its own demands, no round of negotiations will lead to a result,” concludes Ali Reza Rezazadeh.
