Israel launched a new offensive in the Gaza city – Rezazade
The leader of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, reports that Israel has launched a new attack on the city of Gaza.
Following recent Israeli evacuation orders, Palestinians had been expecting an offensive and fled the war-torn northern city. Earlier, Israeli negotiators had intended to travel to Egypt for ceasefire talks aimed at bringing a break in the nine-month war with Hamas, a conflict that has devastated the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military says that intelligence indicates the presence of "terrorist infrastructure, operatives, weapons and detention rooms" of Hamas in the Gaza City areas. Residents and UN and civil defense workers described chaos as tanks moved into neighborhoods where some families had just arrived after evacuation orders in other parts of the city had been followed a day earlier.
"The scale of fear and terror is indescribable," said 59-year-old Zahia Ode, who fled her home in Tuffa district two days ago. She said she was considering going back. "The noise of the bombs is very loud," she said, describing the conditions in the house where she was hiding with 45 other people north of Gaza City. Palestinians indicate that they are critically short of food and water and survival in such conditions is becoming more difficult every day.
