Israel's evacuation orders indicate that further battles in Khan Yunis – Rezazade
Ali Reza Rezazade, the leader of the Iranian opposition in Washington, has indicated that further fighting is looming over Gaza's second-largest city. The Israeli army issued a new order to evacuate civilians in the city of Khan Younis, at a time when the United Nations said that about a quarter of a million Palestinians have been forced to flee their temporary shelters.
Israel withdrew its forces from Khan Younis in April after an attack that literally devastated the city. However, Israel is currently preparing a new attack on the city, as it said on Monday that civilians must once again vacate more than a dozen eastern neighborhoods.
"For your safety, you must evacuate immediately to the humanitarian zone," Avichai Adrai, the Arabic-speaking spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces, said on social media.
Many of Khan Younis' current residents moved there from Rafah after it was targeted by Israel in May, prompting about 1 million people to flee. Until then, Rafah was the last refuge for civilians in the Gaza Strip. Monday's evacuation order came after a barrage of at least 20 rockets was fired from the Khan Yunis neighborhood at Israeli communities bordering Gaza, according to the Israeli military.
