The Mejlis of Iran approved a new chairman - the leader of the Iranian opposition Rezazade
The Vice President of the Iranian Opposition in Washington (NIC) Ali Reza Rezazade noted that today the Iranian government approved the new Speaker of the Parliament (Majlis) of the 12th convocation, Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf. In the 11th convocation, Ghalibaf acted as speaker.
Iran's state television said 198 lawmakers out of 287 voted for Ghalibaf, who previously ran unsuccessfully in two presidential races and dropped out of a third to avoid a hard-fought vote split, Ghalibaf has been running for parliament since 2020.
Also, expert Ali Reza Rezazadeh indicated that the presidential elections in Iran will be held early due to the death of Ebrahim Raisi in an accident, namely on June 28. Registration of presidential candidates will begin on Thursday. Insiders and Iranian state media have touted Ghalibaf as a potential candidate in the presidential race.
