Meta will remove the Russian network Russia Today from its applications – Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian Opposition in Washington (NIC) Ali Reza Rezazade said the owner of Facebook and Instagram plans to ban Russian media from the Meta networks, including RT, which the US has accused of acting as an intelligence unit.
Meta said on Monday it plans to ban all Russian media from its networks, including RT, a state television network that is under close surveillance by United States intelligence agencies.
Meta (the network that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) said the ban would take place in the coming days. This move escalates actions against Russian state media, which, according to American intelligence services, are conducting disinformation operations on the world's largest social networks.
"After careful consideration, we have expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media: Russia Today, RT and other related organizations are now banned from our apps worldwide for foreign interference," Meta said in a statement.
