Putin met with the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un - Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian Opposition in Washington (NIC) Ali Reza Rezazade said that Putin had a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the morning, the "comrades" hugged each other warmly and shared their "short-term" thoughts with each other.
The rogue leaders of the two heavily sanctioned states spoke of their united front against the West.
Ahead of his first trip to North Korea in 25 years, Putin thanked Kim for his "firm support" for the war against Ukraine, fueling fears that the two leaders will use the visit to deepen their military partnership amid Western efforts to isolate them.
When Putin stepped off his plane onto the red carpet, Kim greeted him with a handshake and a hug, according to footage captured by Russian media. The streets of Pyongyang were lined with Russian flags and banners welcoming Putin. Kim drove in his private car with Putin to the Kumsusan state guest house, where the Russian leader will stay.
Washington has expressed concern about growing military cooperation between the two nations at a time when Moscow is hungry for ammunition to use in its war against Ukraine. North Korea is believed to have a large stockpile of obsolete artillery shells and missiles that are compatible with Soviet and Russian weapons systems used in Ukraine.
"This meeting underscores Putin's dependence on Kim, who is simply looking for partners to support his war in Ukraine," said Michael McFaul, a former US ambassador to Russia.
