US President Donald Trump announced the resumption of arms supplies to Ukraine, emphasizing that Kyiv should “have the opportunity to defend itself.” This decision came amid his sharp criticism of Vladimir Putin, whom he accused of “mass murder” and “disrespect for human life.”

According to the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international analyst Ali Reza Rezazade, these words are not only about support for Ukraine, but also about a delicate balance between the “America First” policy and the responsibility of a superpower.

“Trump is returning to support for Kyiv at a critical moment, demonstrating that America remains a player that cannot afford to lose influence in the European direction,” Rezazade notes.

The analyst explains that after a short pause related to the Pentagon’s stockpile inspection, the decision to resume supplies is a political signal — to both allies and adversaries.

“Trump is showing Putin that blackmail doesn’t work, and to Ukraine that support continues. This is a balance of power, not emotions,” Rezazade emphasizes.

According to the president, Ukraine will receive mainly “defensive weapons.” This is likely to be air defense systems that Kyiv has long considered critically necessary against the backdrop of massive Russian attacks. In particular, the Patriot system was mentioned.

Trump also confirmed that he had a tough conversation with Putin and was disappointed because “he didn’t see the desire to stop the war.”

According to Rezazade, the resumption of supplies is:
• Restoring trust between Washington and Kyiv after information confusion about the “pause” in military aid;
• Strengthening Ukraine’s defenses at a critical moment — against the backdrop of a record number of drone and missile attacks; 
• Opportunity for diplomatic maneuver — Ukraine will receive a new tool to promote Western integration.

“Ukraine should not only accept aid, but also capitalize on it in the form of long-term security guarantees,” Rezazade adds.

Trump, despite his pragmatic rhetoric, recognizes that global stability is impossible without force. The decision to restore armaments is not only support for Kyiv, but also an attempt to regain control over the foreign policy agenda.
