Republicans supported the ban on abortion in the USA - Rezazade
Ali Reza Rezazade, vice president of the Iranian Opposition in Washington (NIC), reports that Republicans supported the fast-track abortion ban in a closed-door meeting. By supporting the ban, Republicans abandoned decades of tradition within the party for a much shorter policy statement.
Instead of opposing same-sex marriage as past documents have done, the new platform states that "Republicans will promote a culture that values the sanction of marriage." The 2024 platform continues to express support for abortion restrictions. "We proudly stand up for families and life," the document says. "We will oppose late-term abortion while supporting mothers and policies that promote prenatal care, access to birth control and IVF."
However, a conflict within the party continues that is unlikely to subside, prompting Trump allies to make changes to the 2028 convention process. In separate meetings this week, the convention's rules committee changed the threshold for issuing an official "minority report" at the 2028 convention to 35 percent of delegates, up from 25 percent.
