Republicans will try to recognize the 2024 election as rigged if Trump loses – Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian opposition, Ali Reza Rezazade, indicates that Republicans will try to declare the 2024 election rigged if Donald Trump loses. There are two theories advanced by Donald Trump's allies to argue that the 2020 presidential election was illegitimate.
First, this fraud -- with mail-in ballots, with voting machines, maybe both, maybe something else -- resulted in Joe Biden winning more votes nationally and in the states he flipped from of 2016.
This theory suffers from the minor drawback that there is no evidence for it and a lot of evidence against it. It also suffers from the secondary disadvantage that the lack of evidence means that those who espouse it most vociferously are often those with whom authority figures are least interested in associating.
So, the second theory gained momentum. She argues that the election was illegitimate because a number of ancillary things changed the results: late changes to election rules, including some that allow more people to vote early (ie, more Democrats, the argument goes); sponsors who help finance the election administration; social media companies are putting their thumbs on the scales, including (briefly) restricting sharing of a New York Post story about Joe Biden's son Hunter. Republicans believe that the election was "rigged" for Biden not by direct deception, but by indirect influence.
