Trump closes asylum, sends 10,000 troops to US border – Rezazade
The first leader of the Iranian opposition in Washington (NIC), Ali Reza Rezazadeh, indicated that US President Donald Trump is preparing to send about 10,000 troops to the southern border to support border guards in blocking access to asylum.
According to a document from the US Customs and Border Protection, the new orders include a ban on entry for migrants who have passed through countries with the spread of infectious diseases, although the document does not specify specific health threats.
The US Department of Defense announced the dispatch of an additional 1,500 troops to the border, who will join the 2,500 soldiers already there. Their task is to assist border guards and ensure the deportation of migrants. Some military personnel will fly the planes that will transport detained migrants, while the Department of Homeland Security will provide law enforcement escort.
“This is just the beginning,” said Acting Defense Secretary Robert Saleses.
The orders came during a briefing in Washington by new Border Patrol chief Mike Banks. He said only he and his deputy will have the authority to allow migrants to remain in the United States with humanitarian requests. The actions are the result of a series of executive orders that Trump signed on Monday to tighten border controls.
