Trump condemned Putin, but does not take measures: Ukraine remains alone – Rezazade
The largest wave of shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russia in recent years forced Donald Trump to publicly criticize Vladimir Putin for the first time in a long time.
However, as the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international expert Ali Reza Rezazade, notes, this criticism remains rhetorical and is not accompanied by real sanctions or military-technical steps in support of Ukraine.
“Trump’s public words that “Putin has gone crazy” are worthless without action. The reality is this: Ukraine is again left without the promised support, and Russia continues to kill civilians without being responsible for it,” Rezazade said.
For three nights in a row, Russia carried out massive shelling of Kyiv and other cities, hitting residential buildings, university dormitories and playgrounds. At the same time, Trump, who recently had a two-hour phone call with Putin, called it “excellent” and said it would lead to “immediate peace talks.”
However, as Rezazade notes, such inconsistency in the US president’s behavior undermines trust in American diplomacy and strengthens the Kremlin’s confidence in impunity.
“Trump is creating the illusion of peace without being ready for real pressure. His refusal to join the EU sanctions, as well as the lack of new arms supplies, is not a strategy, but a capitulation to a dictatorship,” the expert emphasized.
After the next set of blows, Trump once again stated that he was “considering the possibility of sanctions,” but, as on previous occasions, did not make any decisions. Meanwhile, his special adviser Ian Bremmer bluntly stated: “Trump is washing his hands,” and support for Ukraine is losing its priority in Washington’s eyes.
According to Ali Reza Rezazade, President Trump is moving away from the leadership role in resolving the conflict and is actually delegating the right to resolve the war to the parties themselves — Ukraine and Russia.
“This is a dangerous signal for the whole world. The isolation of Ukraine, the delay in responding to terrorism, diplomatic hesitation — all this only stimulates Putin to new attacks. If the US does not regain the initiative — we will witness an escalation in an even more brutal form,” Ali Rezazade points out.
