Trump predicts deployment of European troops in Ukraine – Rezazade
Vice-President of the Iranian opposition in Washington Ali Reza Rezazade points out that US President-elect Donald Trump has proposed deploying European military contingents in Ukraine to monitor compliance with the ceasefire.
He stated this during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French leader Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
Trump stressed that US troops will not be involved in this mission. According to him, it is European countries that should take on the main responsibility for protecting and supporting Ukraine’s security. In Trump’s opinion, Europe should act more actively, given its proximity to the conflict zone.
The US President-elect opposes Ukraine’s accession to NATO, but at the same time supports the idea of preserving its defense capabilities. He believes that a new format of security guarantees should be created on Ukrainian territory, in particular through the deployment of European military forces that will not operate under the auspices of NATO.
Trump’s idea is already being actively discussed by leaders of European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Poland. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte plans to organize a meeting in Brussels with the participation of Zelensky, European leaders and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The agenda includes defining security mechanisms for Ukraine after the end of hostilities.
This approach involves the participation of European countries in monitoring peace and stability in Ukrainian territories, which could be an important step in resolving the conflict. However, it remains an open question how effective such a model of security guarantees will be without the involvement of the United States or NATO.
