US accuses Hamas leaders of terrorism over October 7 attack - Rezazade
The Vice President of the Iranian opposition, Ali Reza Rezazade, said in Washington that the United States had accused the leaders of Hamas of terrorism and conspiracy to kill Americans, and a criminal case had been opened in New York.
US officials have opened a criminal case against senior Hamas leaders, charging them with conspiracy to provide material support to the terrorist organization, conspiracy to kill Americans and conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.
The criminal complaint against Hamas leader Yehia Shinwarat and others was made public as US diplomats prepare to present Israel and Hamas with a final proposal for the release of hostages and a ceasefire, potentially as early as this week.
The charging document, filed under seal in February in federal court in New York, refers to the group's massive attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7, which killed an estimated 1,200 people, including more than 40 Americans, and took about 250 hostages . It does not provide much new information about Hamas, but describes a terrorist plot by the group's leaders, beginning in 1997, "to kill citizens of the United States."
