US-China Truce: Not a Detente, but a Temporary Repositioning Before a New Global Game – Rezazade
The latest agreement between the US and China to resume a trade truce is not a symbol of reducing tensions, but an attempt to buy time in a large geo-economic chess game. This opinion was expressed by international expert, first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, commenting on the results of negotiations between delegations of the two superpowers in London.
“Neither side has made any concessions in principle. They have simply overrun the timer. This pause is not reconciliation, but a technical stop to restore strength,” the expert said.
According to him, Washington and Beijing do not trust each other, but are forced to negotiate within the framework of a “framework agreement” due to strategic interdependence. In particular, the US needs Chinese rare earth metals, and China needs access to American high-tech markets.
“The agreement, concluded after many hours of negotiations, actually restores the May truce in Geneva. But this is not the finale - it is a stage before a new act of trade drama,” Rezazade emphasizes.
He draws attention to the fact that both sides have left room for maneuver - the text of the agreements contains a lot of “for now” and “in principle”. In this way, according to the expert, the parties are testing each other: will new promises be kept, or should they prepare for another escalation?
“All these diplomatic formulations like “professional, deep and frank negotiations” are a code for language that means: the conflict has not been resolved, it has only been put on pause,” Rezazade explains.
From a practical point of view, the US promises to ease export restrictions on Chinese goods, and China promises to resume supplies of strategic minerals. Both steps are synchronous and reciprocal — a “you to me, I to you” mechanism, without any excessive trust.
According to the expert, this situation has an important signal for Ukraine:
“We must closely monitor the formation of new global rules of the game. The world is entering a phase of dynamic confrontation between technologies, economies, and interests. And when two giants put the game on pause — it means that each is preparing a new attack.”
