Transfer of power in the US: Trump team signs agreement with Biden administration – Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian opposition in Washington (NIC) Ali Reza Rezazade reports that the transition team of the newly elected US President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum of understanding with the administration of the incumbent President Joe Biden.
This agreement, although signed late, provides the Trump team with access to information from federal agencies necessary to prepare for the transfer of power.
Representatives of the Trump team said that signing the agreement allows their candidates for the government to begin preparatory measures. In particular, this includes the creation of so-called “landing teams” to work in each department and ministry, which will facilitate an orderly transfer of powers.
The expert emphasizes that this step is important for ensuring the continuous functioning of the state administration. The agreement gives the new administration access to key information that allows it to effectively prepare to fulfill its duties from the first day.
However, the transfer of power process this time has broken the established schedule. The transition team missed previously set deadlines for signing agreements with the General Services Administration and the White House, which were supposed to be completed in early fall.
According to the new agreements, Trump and his vice president will use private funds to finance the transition process. In addition, their team has pledged to publicly disclose the names of donors. At the same time, the team will not use government buildings and resources that are usually provided for such purposes.
This year's transition period breaks with traditions that have existed in the United States for decades. This became noticeable even earlier, when Trump decided to refuse to receive intelligence briefings after his candidacy was nominated. At that time, he argued that he did not want to be accused of leaking information.
Despite the controversial moments, the signing of the agreement was an important step in ensuring a stable transition of power and preparing the new administration to carry out its duties.
