Biden's team is trying to change the emphasis on national unity after the assassination attempt on Trump - Rezazade
The leader of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, indicates that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, together with his team, seeks to emphasize national unity after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Biden believes that such an unfortunate event turned the already stormy presidential race. "The assassination attempt on Donald Trump is unfortunate and we have to turn the temperature down in our politics... but that doesn't mean we have to stop telling the truth," Biden said.
Biden began the speech by saying he was praying for Donald Trump, who was wounded in Saturday's shooting and then quickly moved to file a violent lawsuit against the former president. He criticized Trump for ignoring political violence in black cases.
The speech was designed to strengthen Biden's political base and turn the page in his presidential campaign. For more than two weeks, Biden has struggled to reach the public since his poor performance in the June 27 debate.
The assassination attempt on Saturday and a judge's decision Monday to dismiss one of Trump's federal cases -- with the Republican National Convention unfolding -- appeared to offer at least a temporary opportunity for Biden to change the subject and refocus the race on his opponent.
Biden aides are working to mount a dignified response to Saturday's shooting at a Trump rally, seeking to balance an emphasis on national unity with a call for Democrats to stand firm with Biden.
