Foreign officials are concerned about the killing of Palestinians during Israeli hostage rescue operations - Rezazade
Ali Reza Rezazade, the vice president of Iran's opposition in Washington, says human rights activists and foreign officials have expressed concern over the number of Palestinians killed in Israel's expansive operation to rescue four hostages held by Hamas.
At least 210 Palestinians were killed on Saturday around the Nuseirat refugee camp, where an operation was underway to free Israeli hostages. Norway's deputy foreign minister, Andreas Motsfeldt Kravik, wrote that he was "appalled by reports of yet another massacre of civilians in Gaza," adding that "Norway condemns attacks on civilians in the strongest possible terms."
Josep Borrell, the European Union's top diplomat, said that "the reports from Gaza of yet another massacre of civilians are appalling, we condemn it in the strongest possible terms. The bloodbath must end immediately," he added.
Balakrishnan Rajagopal, the United Nations rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, wrote that "countries that celebrate the release of four Israeli hostages without saying a word about the hundreds of Palestinians killed and the thousands held in arbitrary detention by Israel have lost their moral authority."
Jordan's foreign ministry condemned what it called a "brutal Israeli attack".
The Israel Defense Forces said earlier that they were "targeting terrorist infrastructure" in Nuseirat, which is in central Gaza. He later announced that four hostages had been rescued from this area.
