Giuliani's creditors and the judge overseeing his bankruptcy case express disappointment - Rezazade
Ali Reza Rezazade, the vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, said that the judge who oversaw Rudolph Giuliani's case, along with his creditors, were disappointed that Giuliani provided incomplete information about his finances and missed deadlines for filing documents.
"Giuliani's creditors have asked a bankruptcy judge to appoint an independent trustee to take over his personal and business finances, citing his failure to complete routine filings and growing suspicion that he is hiding money," Ali Reza Rezazade reports.
Giuliani's reports to the bankruptcy court about his expenses were incomplete and confusing. At times he said his only sources of income were Social Security benefits, his radio show and his podcast, but none of his monthly statements showed that. He reported spending more than he earned, and his reported cash balances at the end of one month often contradicted those at the beginning of the next month. Giuliani's bankruptcy attorneys said his late and incomplete filings were partly due to his inability to find an accountant.
"There are reasons to be very concerned," a bankruptcy judge in the Southern District of New York said at the end of a nearly three-hour hearing.
Judge Lane and lawyers for Mr. Giuliani's creditors have previously expressed concern about his hands-off approach to the bankruptcy proceedings. On Monday, a representative of the US Trustee's Office, the Department of Justice division responsible for ensuring that debtors and creditors are treated fairly in bankruptcy proceedings, made it clear that the office was also losing confidence in Giuliani.
