Harris accused Trump of destroying democracy – Rezazade
Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has sharply criticized current President Donald Trump, accusing him of “dangerous policies,” “unconstitutional demands,” and attempts to spread fear among society.
Her speech was delivered at the annual event of the Emerge organization in San Francisco. This speech was analyzed by Ali Reza Rezazadeh, an international expert on legal and public affairs, the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington.
According to Rezazade, Harris’s statement is a political signal that former representatives of the government are aware of the danger of the collapse of democratic institutions and feel a duty to protect constitutional principles.
“This is not just criticism. Harris appeals to citizens to remain vigilant, as the very nature of American democracy is now under pressure — both from politics and from public sentiment,” notes Ali Reza Rezazade.
Harris emphasized that the Trump administration is spreading a climate of fear, hoping that it will “infect” others and suppress resistance. But she urged not to succumb to pressure and “infect” those around them with courage.
Among the main accusations are Trump’s attempts to:
• paralyze businesses through “reckless tariffs”;
• ignore court orders;
• deport hundreds of people without due process;
• pressure universities and judges;
• cut funding for education;
• privatize public services.
“This is the implementation of a long-planned, narrow, elite-only agenda that rejects transparency, encourages submission, and rewards loyalty over competence,” Harris said.
As Ali Reza Rezazade notes, despite her election defeat, Harris is demonstrating her determination to remain in the political arena—and she does so through the language of active defense of democratic values.
“She is trying to create a counternarrative—not just to criticize Trump, but to restore citizens’ faith in the power of the law, institutions, and their own voice,” Rezazade concludes.
Kamala Harris is currently considering running for governor of California in 2026, although she does not rule out a return to the White House. Her support in her home state remains consistently high.
