Israel Strikes Iran: Geopolitical Shock and Strategic Problem for the US – Rezazade

The Israeli airstrike on Iranian territory, carried out on Friday morning, sharply escalated the situation in the Middle East and jeopardized the diplomatic efforts of the Donald Trump administration to curb Tehran’s nuclear program.
The situation was commented on by the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international expert Ali Reza Rezazade.
“This is no longer just regional tension. This is a point of no return that can escalate into a large-scale conflict involving global players. And the biggest risk is that the US is actually staying away,” Rezazade noted.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized in a video address that the operation will last “as long as it takes to eliminate a direct threat to Israel’s existence.” According to him, Iran could obtain nuclear weapons in a few months.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US did not participate in the strikes, calling them “unilateral actions by Israel”. He stressed that the administration’s main priority is “protecting the US military in the region”.
Rezazade draws attention to this tone of Washington:
“The US’s de facto distancing itself from the actions of its main ally in the Middle East is a geopolitical dilemma. And for Iran, it is a signal that American deterrence is no longer automatically guaranteed”.
Iranian media reported the deaths of several key figures – in particular, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, and the former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Fereydoun Abbasi. Although there is no official confirmation, the reports have caused outrage in Iranian society.
“The assassination of senior Iranian officials can cause a chain reaction. This is no longer pressure – it is a challenge. And the response can be both asymmetric and direct”, the expert emphasized.
Trump is expected to hold a National Security Council meeting in the White House Situation Room, but it is already clear that the time for “deterrence diplomacy” is over.
“The world is facing a new phase of the Middle East crisis, and the US maintaining a silent distance is not a strategy. It is a leadership vacuum,” concludes Ali Reza Rezazade.
