Johnson’s Speakership in the US House of Representatives is Under Threat – Rezazade
Vice President of the Iranian Opposition in Washington (NIC), Ali Reza Rezazade, indicates that the future of US House Speaker Mike Johnson is in question after his fellow Republicans, influenced by Donald Trump and Elon Musk, refused to support the temporary government funding plan.
If Congress does not make any decision by the weekend, the US government will be forced to stop working due to a shutdown.
Johnson proposed a three-month compromise plan that was supposed to buy time to agree on a long-term budget. However, the conservative wing of the Republicans, as well as Donald Trump and Elon Musk, publicly criticized this approach. They called for immediate cuts to government spending, not temporary solutions.
The failure of the vote significantly complicates Johnson’s position as speaker. Republicans are divided, and his ability to lead the party and Congress is in doubt. If the shutdown becomes a reality, Johnson could lose support, threatening his political future.
