Melania Trump opens channel of communication with Putin regarding Ukrainian children – Rezazade
US First Lady Melania Trump said that after personal correspondence with Putin, Russia allowed the return of eight Ukrainian children to their families. According to her, there is an “open channel of communication” between her and the Russian dictator, through which they discuss the issue of children forcibly removed from Ukraine.
Melania Trump said that the parties agreed to continue working on the return of the remaining children abducted during the war. “This is an ongoing process. I hope that peace will begin with our children,” the first lady said during a speech at the White House.
However, at the same time, the administration of President Donald Trump has cut funding for the Ukraine Conflict Observatory, a research project at Yale University that has documented Russian war crimes, including the deportation of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children.
The organization’s database contains information about more than 30,000 Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia. It was on the basis of these materials that the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin.
International expert, first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, commented on the situation, emphasizing that “any negotiations with Putin are a trap of humanity with which he covers up his crimes.”
According to him, Melania Trump’s address demonstrates sincerity and humanity, but at the same time creates a risk that Russian propaganda will use it to demonstrate “dialogue with the White House.”
“I call on the US Senate and President Trump not to soften their position, but on the contrary, to accelerate the adoption of new sanctions against Russia and provide Ukraine with more long-range weapons. Putin must feel what Ukrainians are experiencing today,” Ali Reza Rezazade emphasized.
He added that any "opening of communication channels" with the Kremlin should be accompanied by maximum publicity in order to avoid manipulation and the use of humanitarian issues in Moscow's political games.
