Russia's massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine is a test of Trump's "peace initiative" - Rezazade

Russia's large-scale missile and drone attack on the territory of Ukraine, which lasted for three consecutive nights, has jeopardized the already fragile peace process promoted by the Donald Trump administration.
The first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international expert Ali Reza Rezazade, called these strikes not only a war crime, but also a direct challenge to the geopolitical legitimacy of the US negotiation initiative.
"When Russia launches missiles at civilian neighborhoods, dormitories and universities, and at the same time participates in the peace process, this is not diplomacy, this is blackmail. And every concession in such a situation only strengthens the aggressor," Rezazade said.
According to him, Trump is in a difficult position. After a phone call with Putin on May 19, the US president hinted at new trade deals with Russia, sparking a wave of criticism among Ukraine’s allies. But after the strike that killed at least 12 civilians, Trump publicly admitted that “Putin has lost his mind” and promised to consider imposing new sanctions.
“This is the first signal that even the personal ties between Trump and Putin cannot withstand reality. The US president has finally admitted that Moscow wants more than just a piece of Ukraine — it wants everything. And if that happens, Russia is headed for its historic collapse,” Ali Reza Rezazade stressed.
Despite diplomatic caution, even Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, retired General Keith Kellogg, called the attacks “disgraceful” and in violation of the Geneva Conventions. At the same time, he, like the rest of the administration, refrained from directly accusing Moscow.
According to Rezazade, the current situation does not require “truce talks,” but immediate pressure on the Kremlin — through sanctions, arms supplies to Ukraine, and international isolation.
“The world cannot afford another geopolitical illusion. If Putin does not receive a tough response, he will continue to kill. The next attack may be even more massive, and then no peace initiative will make sense,” Ali Reza Rezazade summarized.
