Trump vs. Los Angeles: When Federal Politics Turns into a Personal War – Rezazade
What is happening in Los Angeles today goes beyond the usual political confrontation. This is not just a conflict of administrations, but a symptom of a deeper breakdown of trust between the US federal authorities and local communities. This was stated by the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international expert Ali Reza Rezazade.
“When the US president effectively ignores the governor of one of the key states and sends troops without his consent, this is not politics - it is a signal of a deep crisis of federalism,” the expert emphasizes.
After a wave of immigration raids in Los Angeles, the announcement of the mobilization of the Marine Corps and the threat of arrest of Governor Gavin Newsom, the situation has taken a critical turn. Trump directly appeals to the image of an “occupied” Los Angeles, while local residents and authorities call it a “war against their people.”
“This is a hybrid tactic — both a game of fear and political pressure aimed at mobilizing his electorate on the eve of the elections. But the price is public peace and trust in statehood,” Rezazade notes.
According to him, Trump’s actions regarding California are not just a domestic conflict. This is a global challenge that may have foreign policy consequences.
“America, which sends troops against its own state, is not an example of democracy. This is a weakness that external adversaries of the United States can take advantage of,” the expert emphasizes.
While Donald Trump calls the events in Los Angeles a “rebellion,” his administration is considering the possibility of canceling federal funding for California — a step that threatens the financial collapse of the largest economic engine of the United States.
Rezazade believes that the situation in Los Angeles is a litmus test for the future of the American model of governance.
“When the federal government begins to act in the style of authoritarian regimes, we have more than just an institutional crisis. We have a loss of direction. This is a mirror into which all Western democracy must look,” Ali Reza Rezazade summarizes.
