Trump’s Justice Department Pick Draws Criticism from Human Rights Leaders – Rezazade
Ali Reza Rezazade, Vice President of the Iranian Opposition in Washington (NIC), points out that the appointment of Harmit K. Dillon, a known supporter of Donald Trump, to the position of Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, has raised concerns among human rights activists who believe that her ideological beliefs could jeopardize the rights of marginalized groups.
The appointment of Harmit K. Dillon, a prominent supporter of Donald Trump, as assistant attorney general for civil rights, has raised concerns among human rights activists who believe her ideological beliefs could jeopardize the rights of marginalized groups.
Harmit K. Dillon is a California lawyer and former state Republican who is known for her criticism of corporate diversity initiatives, transgender rights, and coronavirus lockdown policies. If confirmed by the Senate, Dillon will lead a team of hundreds of lawyers working on anti-discrimination and voting rights cases. But her leadership is expected to see a significant shift in priorities compared to the Biden administration.
Dillon founded her own law firm in 2006 and has litigated voting rights laws, redistricting and other issues for Republicans. She has become a leading advocate for Trump’s baseless claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, urging the Supreme Court to uphold his efforts to overturn the results of the vote in key battleground states.
Ahead of the November 2024 election, Dillon has repeated her unsubstantiated claims of fraud, questioning the conduct of elections in Democratic-leaning states such as Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
“Laws passed by legislators are completely ignored… A small number of unelected bureaucrats or elected officials change the outcome of elections in a few districts, and that affects the outcome of the national election — that’s exactly what happened in 2020,” Dillon said in October during a podcast hosted by Nicole Shanahan, a former Democrat turned Trump supporter.
